Spotlight on SiGNE

Apr 22, 2026

SiGNE is pleased to feature Dr Abbas Khan, Postdoctoral Researcher at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, in our Spotlight on SiGNE series, showcasing the researchers contributing to the development of next-generation battery technologies across the consortium.

Within SiGNE, Abbas works on the design and testing of advanced electrolyte formulations for silicon/graphite anodes and Ni-rich cathodes, with a particular focus on interfacial stability, electrochemical performance and their relevance to practical cell development. His work supports the project’s ambition to advance safer, higher-performance lithium-ion batteries for future applications.

Alongside his research, Abbas also contributes to coordination activities with project partners across the consortium, supporting collaboration across multiple work packages.

Before joining SiGNE, Abbas completed his PhD at the Institut des Matériaux de Nantes Jean Rouxel (IMN), through the MSCA COFUND DESTINY programme, where he worked on Nb-based oxide negative electrode materials for fast-charging batteries — expertise that continues to inform his research today.

Through our Spotlight on SiGNE series, we are proud to highlight the people behind the science driving innovation across the project.
